People who believe that all the physical mediums came from Europe had better read Colonel Henry Olcott's detailed description of seances he attended at a backwoods farmhouse in Chittenden, Vermont in the mid 1870's. Two uneducated farm boys named William and Horatio Eddy were investigated by scores of researchers, reporters and visitors from abroad who were amazed to find that spirits of native Indians, middle-eastern characters and apparitions of all shapes and sizes mysteriously appeared in the seance room when these farm boys were the mediums. The spirit visitors were often adorned with jewellery and robes of various ethnic origins that totally dissolved into thin air when the visitors departed. The mediums were confined to tea chests and made to endure hours of severely restricted movement to satisfy researchers that the boys were not committing fraud of any kind. Colonel Olcott spent a month observing and reporting on the phenomena. There at the farmhouse he met the eccentric Russian medium Madame Blavatsky (author of The Secret Doctrine) She testified to having conversation with spirits who spoke fluent Russian, a language the mediums did not speak. An artist was able to sketch many of the spirits who posed for him and these sketches are included in this fascinating volume. Colonel Olcott wrote a detailed report of his findings for the New York Daily paper. This book is truly a classic of psychic literature and a challenge to all thinking people. As an owner of one of the original copies I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in Vermont History, Paranormal and Mediums. My family was investigated by a military Colonel who wrote this book. He never found any evidence that they were a fraud that I know of. The Eddy's were well respected in their views and activities. There were many letters written to them asking for their help from people all over the world. Including Royalty, Politicians, Working Class and many others. If you have an interest than I think you will enjoy this book. If You have read it already. The building did really turn. It can be proven with a visit.
The kindle version is basically digital images of each page stitched together and is truly unusuable and unreadable on the regular kindle fire. There was no conversion of the book into to text which would make it infinitely more navigable and readable. The book will eat up a lot of your bandwidth should you actually try to download it as I found out too late.
This edition used for this ebook appears to be available for free on the internet archive in many common ebook formats. Save your money and don't bother with this version.
