This collection includes thirty new poems as well as selections from each of the author's four previous works. Cooper describes the crafting of poetry as a contemplative practice, an act that opens us to insights and connections that might otherwise go unnoticed. She has used poetry extensively in her work as a Hospice Chaplain. Cooper co-edited the anthology "Beloved on the Earth 150 Poems of Grief and Gratitude" (Holy Cow! Press, 2009), and she frequently teaches writing classes for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
Ellie Schoenfeld says that Cooper's poetry carries the reader "through suffering and grace and redemption and humor" to help us remember "what it is to be human in this world."

Deborah Gordon Cooper is a gentle, lovely poet and has written several books of poetry. The language of her poetry is accessible to all. She lives in Minnesota, as do I, and adds to Minnesota's wealth of outstanding poets. This book was a gift to me and it never leaves my nightstand. I've been writing poetry for many years and have taken many classes at the Loft Literary Center. Deborah is an inspiration to new poets like myself. Some of her poems reference the death of her brother and will take your breath away. I ordered another copy to give as a gift, and will continue to order poetry books on line, not only because it often saves money, but mainly because specific poetry books are often hard to find in bookstores.
