I agree with the previous review, gripping and suspenseful. Toss in a little controversy and you have it. Finished it in 2 days. I would give it 5 stars if the characters were developed just a bit more. All in all a fun read.

Angels Fallen edition by Francis Smith Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Great thriller that keeps the suspense high. Follow Dan Flaherty and Jim Dieter as they make their way to where Jim's father buried millions worth of gold - all while being chased by the Vatican, British, and French governments. The cat-and-mouse game was so well put together. Very early on you realize that anyone can die, so I was often on the edge of my seat as the slew of special operatives get closer and closer to Dan and Jim's location. All of the characters have a very distinct feel to them, and though you only meet some for a short amount of time, the voice they emulate through their dialogue is never bland and generic. and it's fun to read Dan and Jim's witty banter back and forth. The only mega downside is that the story has a lot of typos, many of which are simple to find and fix. However, the unique and thrilling storyline is definitely worth it. If you are a fan of thrillers, or you like your books to be as exciting as a movie, this is your book.
I love reading historical fiction and World War II is one of my favorite time periods to read about. So, needless to say, I was happy to find Angels Fallen by Francis Joseph Smith.

This is the first book I have read by Francis Joseph Smith so I didn't know what I was getting into but I was pleasantly surprised by Angels Fallen. It is a suspenseful novel set in present day and in the 1940's. I love books that switch time periods but sometimes they can be a little uneven. Angels Fallen was not uneven at all. The transitions were very smooth and the novel itself was a real page turner. I could not put it down and I blame this book for a sleepless night as I frantically tried to finish it and find out what happens in the end.

My one problem with this book was the way the Pope was portrayed. That bothered me and is the reason I am knocking one star off. It won't keep me from reading more books by Francis Joseph Smith though. Also, I have to mention that this book is lendable and that makes me so happy as I love sharing my kindle books!
I must say that I had my doubts as to whether this book could compete with the author's previous novel,Fury From Within. But after only a few minutes with the book, I am convinced Francis Smith is a genius! His writing style is such that you don't want to put down the book in fear of missing what is about to happen. If this were a film, you would be on the edge of your seat during the whole thing. It kept me reading straight through the day into the night. I couldn't stop. The author can write a great story, I HAD to see what was going to happen next. I agree with the last review, I too hope for a sequel.
From the moment you hear Hans' death bed story and learn why it has been kept a secret for almost 60 years, you will be hooked. The way the two main characters, Hans' son Jim and best friend Dan, interact with the government agencies after them actually makes you part of the action. You almost feel as if you are in Europe with Jim and Dan and Interpol is right on your tail! And to involve the Vatican? Pure genius on Smith's part. This thrill ride is suspenseful to the very end when Hans' secret is finally revealed.
You can take my word for it or you can buy the book and get hooked like the rest of us. You won't be disappointed.
Angels Fallen is one of those books that keep you up at night when you know you have to get up early the next morning. I could not stop reading, and just kept saying to myself I'll read just a little more, just a little more...

The plot concerns a Vatican cover-up, Nazi gold, and documents that could blow the Catholic church apart. It's a familiar plot from the last several years Catholic Church cover-ups and travelling across several countries to both escape them and solve the mystery. This author, however, took this plot and rocked my world with it. It's fun, the action never lags, and you never really know what is going to happen next. I never saw what was coming, as the author never telescoped his plot. No guessing here; you have to keep reading to find out what's going to happen, and the answer is always interesting and, at times, mind-blowing.

I loved it, and I will be sure to read this author again. The history is right, the dialogue and action realistic, and it held my interest for long hours. I didn't even miss the lost sleep. Definite 5 stars.
This book starts off by laying out the ground work of an intriguing story that takes place in WW2. The story then switches back to present day and the real story begins.

During WW2 Captain Hans Dieter of the German army plays a role as one of the people that help move the vast amount of treasures seized during the occupation of European countries.

The treasures were then transferred to the Vatican bank for safe keeping and to be used to pay off officials and help hide the movement of German officers after the war was over.

Hans on his deathbed tells his tale to his son Jim and Dan Flaherty, asking them to right all his wrongs. Jim being a former Navy SEAL and Dan being and ex-IRA operative are the unlikely match but that adds to the story as well.

This is where the story really begins and this leads our two heroes down a path of nonstop action and adventure. The book is a real page turner that has you on your toes wondering what will happen next. Our heroes find themselves in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the people that do not want their secrets to be known to the outside world.

This book has a great plot and storyline that is full of adventure and will have you wanting more and more. If you're the type who like adventure, action, spy / espionage, and a splash of military action than this is the book for you. This is an amazing read that thoroughly enjoyed all the way through.
