It all began in 1982 when a baby boy was found in the wilderness. He was then named Adji. Over time, little Adji grew up, and like most teenagers, he began to feel an attraction to the opposite sex. Lisa was his first love and the biggest crush of his life. One day, Lisa got shot in the cafe where she worked. Miraculously, Adji healed her. He did not know he had such ability. He and Lisa decided to keep it a secret.

By accident, Adji met Ptaah who came from Planet Erra. The man explained about Adji’s ability and why he had it. He also mentioned that his healing powers could have useful effects on humans. From then on, Adji began to maximize his ability to save Lisa.

In the meantime, the investigation of the shooting incident began. Antonio, the policeman who ran the investigation, obtained three names as potential suspects. However, despite all the suspects being fully investigated, the case remained unsolved. Antonio then tried to look at the case from a different perspective. He finally ended up working hand in hand with the UFO community.

Falling From The Sky volume 1 edition by Joannes Rhino Joannes Setyanto Literature Fiction eBooks

Falling from the Sky does not read like a sci-fi, rather a story, love story if you like between Adji and Lisa, very much rooted in the planet earth. However, there is always a desire in the characters - Adji and Antonio mainly to seek, and to find more about the universe, the planet, the black hole and the outer space generally. Nonetheless, the story turns quite dramatically from a shooting incidence and police investigations to alien visitation.

A few stylistic problems emerged in Chapter 3 as the writers, Joannes Rhino and Joannes Setyanto begin three consecutive paragraphs with the word 'she', 'she' and again 'she'. This could have been replaced with another word starting each paragraph with a different word. Apart from this, it is a well-written book with a passion for the unknown

Falling From The Sky volume 1 edition by Joannes Rhino Joannes Setyanto Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Falling from the Sky is somewhere between science fiction and romance, carving a path that winds its way through the difficulties of young relationships and through concepts of fate and destiny. I found the story interesting in how it blended various genres together, and perhaps most of all in the level of research that the author, Joannes Rhino, put into UFO phenomena.

The story itself takes place in Indonesia, although I wouldn't say that it feels distinctly Indonesian in style or nature – many features of the tale in Falling from the Sky would not be out of place if transplanted to another location or country. In a way, I found that a little disappointing, and I think the book might have been slightly stronger had it more deeply given a sense of modern Indonesia. That aside, however, the tale that winds its way through these pages is one of alienation, both literal and metaphorical – the protagonist, Adji, is a quiet loner even as a human before he discovers his true nature. The romantic plot that follows is one that I suspect many of us are familiar with, but it's complicated by the science fiction element from Adji's past that comes to fruition during the passage of the story.

Don't expect hard science when it comes to aliens and the paranormal in Falling from the Sky – but you may be impressed by how firmly rooted in modern UFOlogy it is, as I was. Rhino litters his scenes with references to names and theories about UFOs and, curious, I decided to check whether these were all just inventions – but as it turns out, the author has drawn deeply on UFO mythology to weave a solid backdrop for the aliens of his story. It's one of the strongest elements of Falling from the Sky and helped bring greater life and depth to the unfolding exploration of events by the Alpha-Omega characters in particular; I found myself wishing they'd been introduced earlier in the book, as they provided an interesting angle into the plot.

Falling from the Sky does have its flaws, although there's nothing deal-breaking; some of the characterisation could do with work, and it would benefit from further editing. However, I enjoyed reading this book and it provides an interesting contrast against the other, far darker works of Joannes Rhino.
Falling from the sky is a science fiction story a little different from most. The alien living among us who doesn't know he’s an alien and doesn't know the powers that he has is intriguing, but it goes beyond just an alien on Earth story. There’s the coming of age of Adji, the full circle for Antonio, fate and the meaning of life, death and time, and unfulfilled love.

An enjoyable and easy read. The pace was good and kept me interested throughout. Only a little too much detail at times and a number of typos kept it from being better.
Joannes Rhino's Falling from the Sky is the story of Adji and Lisa. Adji inexplicably saves Lisa, the woman he loves, from a gunshot wound just as the bullet enters her body. Afterward, he learns that he's part alien and part human and saving lives is one of his special powers. He's also told that unless he leaves Earth to recharge his power, he will gradually lose that power and things will go badly. He refuses to leave because he loves Lisa. Even when Antonio, a police detective, shadows Adji convinced that he had something to do with the curious shooting of Lisa, he refuses to leave. At the same time, it's apparent to Adji that whatever he has has weakened and he fears for Lisa's safety. It'a a powerful story line.
Once again, Joannes Rhino has produced another masterpiece. I usually prefer to stay away from sci-fi novels because they often extrapolate the paranormal beyond rational bounds; however, Falling From the Sky, Vol.1 was a pleasant surprise. It weaves a riveting mystery that surprises the reader in each chapter. Mr. Rhino’s prose makes the reader feel like he is right there, witnessing the events of the story, and struggling against the same emotions as the main characters. I had already developed a firm conclusion regarding the UFO phenomenon; however, Falling From the Sky, Vol.1 made me question my conclusion more than once. Mr. Rhino also writes with an extraordinary knowledge of UFO phenomenon. He uses the knowledge that humans acquired regarding UFOs to be as technically correct as possible in this novel. These qualities make Falling From the Sky, Vol.1 a definite must-read, and I am sure that, after you read it, you will join me in imploring Mr. Rhino to write the sequel.
Johannes Rhino is a very talented author who has the ability to blend genres, and get away with it. Not an easy thing to do. I have enjoyed his previous work and looked forward to reviewing Falling from the Sky. His books are professional because of the amount of research he carries out with each subject he tackles. This time he introduces us to the UFO phenomena and gives us pause for reflection. The story for Falling from the Sky deviates from the usual scifi invasions by aliens and galactic battles, thank goodness.
It has a good strong mystery, enough of a romance to qualify its raison d’etre, and the paranormal, which I find intriguing.
I do not like to give away the plot and feel the reader should discover the characters. Enough has been written about both. This is a wonderful book to curl up in a corner and explore.
